Cheating in Sports

Is it ever acceptable to cheat in sports?  Explain in 100 words or more.  If needed, provide examples to support your claim.

  1. It is never acceptable to cheat in sports because if you cheat you alter the outcome of the game and that is just wrong. If a person cheats in a sport in ruins the game for everyone included because you take the integrity out of the game. Like the recent NFL playoff game with the Indianapolis Colts and the New England Patriots the Patriots are being accused of deflating footballs so that they are better to throw and catch and in 2007 the Patriots were accused of spying on other teams practices. People are now saying that Bill Belichek's and Tom Brady's great careers are now tarnished by all of the cheating they were accused of.

    1. I agree with you. Cheating does tarnish a person career. I like the way you said that. But, that's an addition to ruining your ego and your social image.

    2. I agree with what you are saying. Once a cheater always a cheater. It ruins the whole persons reputation or as you said their careers have been tarnished.

    3. I agree with you. If you cheat once you’re bound to cheat again. In the end, maybe if you didn’t cheat the opposing team could have one. It change everything and isn’t fair.

    4. I agree with you because I think there is no need for cheating if you think your good to play the game against other people.

    5. I agree with you because if you cheat you might get cought and wreck it for the rest of the team. And if you don't play fair your training for no reason.

    6. I totally agree with you. I do not believe it is acceptable to cheat at all. It is wrong and should not be done because it makes everything unfair.

  2. You should never cheat in any sporting event. It is not the right thing to do and it affects the game or player. It could change the whole outcome of a game and make everything different. Especially if you only won by a small margin, the cheating is probably the reason you won. If a player cheats by enhancing himself or making him better at the sport is the worst. Say if it is to break a record and the cheater does break. That’s not fair because the first person who made the record probably didn't cheat to get it. No cheating should ever get unseen.

    1. No doubt, I agree with what you are saying. Those little things you have done to cheat even if it was extremely simple could be the difference of you winning. Cheating shouldnt go unseen.

    2. People who cheat are only making them selfs look bad at the point but when then find out then they are donzo.

  3. I have heard some people say if one is not cheating then they are not trying. I disagree with this statement. I do not think it is ever acceptable to cheat in any sport. It makes things unfair and eventually the truth always comes out one way or another. One example of cheating in a sport is when Tonya Harding hired an undercover person to beat Nancy Kerrigan so she would not be able to compete in the 1994 World Figure Skating Championships. By doing this, Tonya Harding cheated her way to the championship and won a medal she should not have. However, the truth eventually came out. Harding was charged and Nancy Kerrigan was lucky enough to get a chance to compete again.

    1. I totally agree with what you are saying. If you have to cheat your way into winning, you are telling yourself that you are not good enough or better than the other person and you cannot wiunless they are gone.

    2. You could not have said that any better Kmin. I completely agree with what your saying; cheating is completely wrong and people who cheat badly ruin their careers.

    3. You brought out a great example. I completely agree with what you said about the truth always coming out eventually. I can’t stop thinking how dumb some people are to actually go through with cheating and not work hard and believe in themselves.

      Delete
  4. I think cheating in sports is dumb because you are not going to be really good you will be good but it’s not true. You won’t be yourself. You’ll be a totally different person. Let’s say for example you took steroids and you were very skinny like skin and bones. You will look nothing like what you were before. It would be very obvious that you either were in the gym all day every day for your entire life or you are on some kind of drug that will enhance your muscle tone. Cheating is never the answer because you can get caught and either risk your life or your job.

    2. I agree with you what are you getting by cheating it's not but hurting you and others. Also knowing that you can't play the sport fair and do it the easy way. Well other athletes will do what ever it takes to be the best.

    3. I agree with your remark you posted. If someone thinks there the best or so good I have to think that there is no point of cheating.

    4. I agree cheating is never the answer. You train all day every day and all that to just cheat? That's wrong play fair. After all it's just a game.

    5. I also agree with thhis since if you just take drugs or cheat who are you proving urself to and you live with guilt.

  5. I think it is never acceptable to cheat in sporting events. Cheating is just a short cut or the "coward's way" to accomplish success in sports. When people cheat, the truth will come out and everybody finds out and realizes you played unfair. Sooner or later, your name will be known as the person who cheated. In baseball, players use steroids to hit more homeruns than others and to break records. For example, baseball player Barry Bonds has been tested for steroids. He was hitting 30-40 homeruns a season before steroids; after he used them he was hitting 60-70 homeruns. His entire body changed by getting bigger and putting on about 80 pounds, and his head has grown twice as big before he took the steroids. People found out that he used steroids and cheated; if he didn’t use steroids he would’ve been into the hall of fame but now everybody knows him as a cheater.

    2. Cheating is the easy way out. Cheating does more bad than good for you and most athletes do not realize that. They will never be as good as they can truly be.

      Delete
    3. I agree with everything you had said. I believe it ruins the athlete. They will never know how good they could've been without cheating. The unanswered questions will forever linger in their minds.

  6. I believe that cheating is never acceptable in any case. Cheating in sports makes competitions and games unfair. In the mindset of many professional athletes, winning is very important. Athletes will do everything and anything just to win. I will never understand why they choose to cheat because the truth will always come out. For example, in recent news, the Patriots were caught with footballs deflated in order for their quarterback to get a better grip. Now they ruined their reputation and sports new reporters are doing further investigation. The pride in victory will only last a certain amount of time. Once they find out cheating was involved, the guilt will last longer.

    1. I sort of agree with you on this one, but do you really think not one athlete cheated even in the smallest way possible. I totally agree with the fact that it makes the competitions and games unfair.

    2. I think it was stupid for the Patriots to do so too. Now their whole reputation is ruined and they have to start back from the bottom.By cheating teams don't only hurt themselves but also their fans that believed in them.

  7. Never is it acceptable to cheat in sports. Sports are a game of skill and strength and if someone cheats then they obviously aren't good enough and are weak. If someone who cheats gets away with it and wins, I hope they live with the fact that they didn't actually "win", they faked winning. Cheating could include dirty play or using steroids or performance enhancers. For instance, If I'm competing in a race car competition and I modify my biggest competitors car so it doesn't work well, that's dirty play. Cheating if also just bad manners, so get ahold of yourself and if you actually want to be good at something and win then do it the proper way and work for it like everyone else.

  8. I think that cheating is never acceptable. I've heard the saying that if one is not cheating, he/she is not trying. To me, I think that's bull crap. If you're going to play a sport you either have to play it right and play it fair or don't even play the sport at all. People who dont cheat and become famous are more popular than the ones that do cheat. As an athlete I have the mindset of playing every sport with a tough, hard attitude. I will become the best by working hard. Cheating or using drugs are considered an easy way out to avoid all the hard work. Cheating is for weak athletes that don't have mental toughness.

    3. Yes! I definitely agree with this. If you want to play a sport that you love, why not just do it right and fair? Taking steroids is far from playing fair and honest. If you love the sport so much, why would you go down such a path?

  9. I do not think that it is ever acceptable to cheat in a sport. There are so many athletes that were lucky enough to be given special athletic ability to dominate in their sport. This is taken away and they aren't able to show what they can do because the ones who cheat are always the one who shine. The natural athletes cannot shine because the cheaters dominate in all areas and it is hard for the naturals to catch up and compete with them. Everyone should use the gift that they were given to do the best they can to win and keep the game fair.

  12. Cheating is the subject most people sweep under the rug and try to pretend it never happened. Cheating is cheating, whether it is a husband cheating on his wife or a child cheating on his math exam. It is never justified, especially when other people can be hurt by the outcome. Cheating in sports is definitely a game changer. It can take away a win from a team that deserved it more than the other. It is unacceptable for an athlete or a coach to take away the chance of winning the game from another player that works just as hard as he or she does. All players deserve the same opportunity of winning and those who ruin their chances should definitely be punished. Even though cheating is often more efficient, it is never right.

  13. I don't think cheating is ever acceptable in any sport or in anything else. It gives off a sense of dishonesty and and slickness to anyone if used in a sport or if cheating is used period. It holds the opponent or other team to a disadvantage making it unfair. Both parties should have an equal chance of winning no matter what. Usually when someone does cheat somehow someway the truth always seem to come out. For example a couple of years ago in the playoffs the saints vs the jets. The saints organization offered illegal money to hurt brett favre in order to give the saints a better chance to win. Somehow it came out and the nfl heard about it and punished the head coach.

    1. I agree that both parties should have an equal chance of winning. The cheaters should not be rewarded a win just because they found an easy way to get it. You have to work for what you want.

  14. Cheating should not even be used in the same sentence as sports. Sports first started as true talent and people became greater with time and practice. When people get caught cheating, fans lose respect for that team or person. In my opinion, if sports get to a point when people cheat just to win, I will not watch sports period. There will be no love for sports anymore because at the end of the day there will always be that thought " they won because they cheated". If athletes want to be better as a team and win, they need to practice harder. Cheating can be done in many ways for example, steroids. With technology evolving and becoming better, people need to remember that they can not use this technology to be better at sports. All in all, to be a true winner you need to leave your sweat and blood on courts and fields to get that big win you strive for.

    2. I completely agree with you! Cheating goes to show that there is no love for the sport anymore, but the love for money and fame. I also agree with the point that if a player wants to become better they have to work for it.

    3. I completely agree with you that cheating is a reflection on how much you love the sport. Working hard to improve yourself is all apart of the game.

  15. Cheating is acceptable to me because regardless of what happens, people are going to cheat either way. So why not give myself the best chance to win. It gives me an advantage and makes things easier. They say " if you're not cheating, then you're not trying". I don't even consider it cheating, to me it's just a smart way in putting myself in a position to succeed. Sometimes life is just not fair, and sometimes the easiest way is the smartest way to go. I'm not saying cheating everytime is ok, but cheating once in a while is acceptable because who doesn't cheat?

Other athletes have the mindset of working hard and what does that make you when you cheat.

  17. I think cheating in sports is pointless because your not showing your true potential. Cheating shows weakness because everyone thinks you need to cheat just to win. You will become known as a weaker player and everyone will think less of you. Winning without cheating is more rewarding. It showes that you worked for you win that you deserved. Eventually, you will be caught if you cheat. Your dream of becoming the best will soon be crushed. Cheating is never the answer. You have to work for what you want and not take the easy way. It will be the best decision and it'll show in tha end.

    1. I completely agree, If someone cheats they are showing weakness and proves that they aren't good enough to win on their own. And winning without cheating is more rewarding, if you cheat you will always live with the guilt.

    2. I agree that cheating is pointless. I like the point you have brought up, "cheating shows weakness". Cheating also shows doubt within a player and they start to believe that they have not trained or tried hard enough. Eventually, anyone who cheats will get caught and it will be publicized. This will only bring bad reputation and having to return all medals that were given.

      Delete
    3. You couldn’t have said it better. Cheating really is pointless. Depending on the severity of cheating, it really deflates any talent you have because if you are so good of a player then you should be able to win without cheating.

  18. I believe that sports need to be a fair game. Because all sports really are, is a game. You can be the best baseball player, basketball player, football player, or tennis player; but if you cheat you are nothing. To me the main purpose of playing a sport is to have fun. Sure some people make a living off of it because they become to be a great player, without cheating. If you ever start to cheat, soon that’s what you will be known for, a cheater. I say just play and have fun doing what you love. If someone else comes along don’t use a chemical to help you to become better, practice and work hard. For example, Barry Bonds, he let envy and jealous get in his head and after being caught using steroids he, who was a great player won’t be in the Hall of Fame. For what? Because he cheated? Well, yeah it’s a big deal!

    1. I agree with you because once you cheat you will always be known as a cheater. Just play the game you love and do your best with hard work, and the results will show.

    2. This is exactly what I think of sports. I think sports should be about the fun and not just to beat the other person. I like the Barry Bond example he would have been great anyway but he just had to cheat.

  19. I honestly think cheating is not good and worth it for anything people decide to use it on. If you think your good at what you do then you have to bust your butt and do it by yourself by earning it. Yeah it's alot if hard work but when you accomplish it you will feel so relieved, and feel that if you can do that then you can do anything you want if you set your mind do if you focus on it. At the end of this you will think to yourself and say wow I did the right thing instead of the wrong choice.

  20. I believe that it is never acceptable to cheat in sports. I believe it is unacceptable for many reasons. The main reason behind my answer is that it makes it unfair to everyone, especially the athletes that put in the hard work to get to the next level without cheating. Sports are based on someone's hard work and talent not the shortcuts they took. When cheating is involved it just ruins everything. They also make sports not as fun. It's like a video game if you use cheat codes it gets boring because there is no challenge present. They are also stealing money because they pay based on their skill. If they cheat they are stealing money and stealing money is a horrible thing to do because it is not earned.

    3. I completely agree with you, it makes it unfair and not fun to watch/play. What's the point of making it to the professionals if you cheat. People base you on your skill and cheating does show any skill.

  21. My opinion when cheating in sports is noting but failure and ignorance. People should never cheat because it's a way of telling everyone that you can't win by your own. When a team plays by the rules and plays as a whole, it makes people respect you and you also makes you feel better about your self. Any team that cheats is showing noting but how stupid they are and why they can't win by their own. When a team cheats to win is like passing the homework but not knowing how to do the real test. I say that any team that cheats needs to be removed from that sport because it's sad and embarrassing for people to know that a whole group of people can't win by their own.

  22. In my opinion, if you are a professional athlete I think cheating could be a easy way to form bad habits and potentially slowly lose yourself. Athletes I believe aren't just here to only entertain our society but to also give good examples of how to be successful and to follow our dreams. From professional athletics to college and to even high school, cheating is cheating yourself from being a true role model and athlete. Cheating just shows that we are afraid to fail, you can't be afraid to fail that's what I believe. Cheating won't teach ourselves anything but to be afraid and take the shortcuts in life.

    1. I agree with you if you are a professional athlete you put all your effort and motivation to becoming something you could only dream of until you finally achieve your dream. When you cheat you can quickly make a dream into a nightmare.

  23. Athletes should take pride in the sport they are great at, and I feel if they have to cheat in order to be great, they shouldn't be so proud of themselves. Cheating is an easy way to escape hard work and get ahead of others who truly are dedicated in being the best at what they do. For example, performance enhancing drugs are used by many athletes to be the best, but in my opinion they are just cheating themselves. They could work on being number one or winning a gold medal without the help of steroids. I can't imagine winning a gold medal that I didn't deserve because I cheated.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I could not agree more with you Klaudia. Athletes who take performance enhancing drugs are not 100% pure athlete. They needed help and it is definitely not something to be proud of.

      Delete
  24. Cheating should not be allowed in sports in any way. There are many athletes out there and some make the wrong decision by doing so. Cheating is for people who know won't win and they want to avoid losing but, losing sometimes benefits teammates by making them push their limits in trying to make themselves better. Sports aren't all about winning especially if you win because you cheat. People or teams that win thanks to cheating should not be proud of that because that is a dirty way of doing things. You should win by using your own effort and work you have put in towards winning and not cheating.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I think cheating is the worst choice you can ever make in a sport you work your whole life for just to be a little better. You work your whole life for this one achievement and your good enough to be professional without it and yet people still ruin their dreams by taking steroids. No matter how good you are at lying and hiding the fact that you are cheating the truth always comes out. You might pass the drug tests and say that you didn't take anything, but at the end the guilt is what kills any person no matter how mentally strong a person is.

    1. I like how you mentioned that the truth always comes out. I agree that even those who do cheat and get away with it then they will never get the full satisfaction because of the guilt they have encountered.

  26. i fell like cheating in a sport is what makes a sport more exciting. yes, cheating is a bad thing at times like taking steroids. But just like in football, the players are not always honest. Every time i watch football all the players claim they catch the football but at times they do and do not get the call for a catch. Most of the time they are accurate with calls but some teams get screwed over, some love that they got the call. Obviously, breaking someones leg on purpose is just not right but i feel like cheating is okay to a certain extend. that is why cheating makes sports more exciting in a sport to a certain extend.

  27. I think that if you cheat who and what point are you proving if you would just work for the thing you love and plus your getting paid to do it just be detecated to it and you will become good. I think that if you cheat your going to be the best and then when you get caught you will be know as the worst so you have to think to urself is it really worth it. To come so far and then just throw it all away for what. So if you want to do that that then go ahead cheat you eont get anywhere.

  28. This is definitely a life teaching moment. I agree with the punishment 100% and believe the kids received what the deserved. Sports are meant to bring out joy, not violence in people. I understand that sometimes players get frustrated because I was once one of them, but to start a physical fight with an opponent is just unacceptable. Playing a sport is a privilege, which is why athletes should always stay humble no matter how tough a game becomes. I know I would get frustrated during basketball or soccer games, but my coaches and teammates taught be well enough to respect all players at all times. This punishment was for sure an appropriate one.

  29. I think people that cheat should not have a chance in sports like if they needed drugs to become better then the other average players then they suck. I think if they would be like in love with the sport they are good at then they would work on it to become a better player in that sport like work out run train all day to become a better player thats why I think there is no use for cheating.
