  1. Athletes are entitled to their opinions and therefore it is right for them to express their feelings wether it be on their own time or on the job. As Deron Snyder explained, "They realize that there is a need for a voice and they had the right opprotunity - like we did - to be that voice, to be heard." Athletes give public attention and awareness towards the community, which may have a major impact on others. Athletes are people just like us, so that gives them every right to formulate and express their feelings through symbolic features.

  2. Athletes should be able to voice their opinions on social issues, but in an appropriate time and manner. Author Alana Flinn writes, "there's a time and place for everything." During warm-ups or right before a game is not it. A game is supposed to be for sports; clean family fun.

  3. All athletes should be able to voice their opinions but in the right place. "these athletes are sparking more controversy involving national cases which need to be put behind us." Players are voicing their opinion at the wrong places. The players are voicing their opinions on the field or court when they should be focusing on there games, take your opinion to your social media.

  4. Athletes should be able to have a freedome of speech and still play sports with clean, family oriented enjoyment. Athletes are people to and they need to have a figure of speech and they are the best at sponcoring things or spreading things out and helping people. Everyone deserves equality and even if you are an athlete you should be treated the same as a regular person. They are all normal people with a louder opinion and a figure of speech.

  5. Athletes should be able to address issues of racism in their workplace to a certain extent. Deron snyder writes "Today's age of social media is perfect for expanding a message further." This supports my claim because social media is an appropriate way to address the issue. An athlete can take a picture of him acknowledging the issue by wearing a shirt or some other way and an appropriate comment along with it.

  6. Athletes should be able to wear whatever they want and be able to speak on how they feel about a certain issue. Derrick Rose doesn't care if people support an issue, "I couldn't care less about who else is in on this." Deron Snyder says that athletes don't care if other people support the issue, as long as they speak about how they feel about the issue. Deron Snyder is also saying that athletes should express their opinion about the issue instead of keeping it to themselves.

  8. Athletes have the right to speak out about racial issues, but should be careful in the way that they do so. A news reporter stated that, "...although athletes should voice their opinion, not all of them are in a position to do so... the violent protests are not helping anyone and bring bad publicity to the towns." Many of the athletes' commentary is sparking more protests, majority of them violent, in troubled cities. They have the right to speak, but they should be more subtle and careful about the way say certain things in addition to encouraging protesters to not riot and to not be violent.

  9. Athletes should be able to voice thier opinion but not at their place of work. Alana Finn feels that "Atheletes are sparking more controversy involving national cases which need to be put behind us." Athletes can voice their opinion on their own time. If they do it at a game, they can cause alot more problems. when athletes say or wear things at games, people can get upset. Athletes should just play their game and say their opinions on their own things.

  10. Athletes should express their opinions on social issues because it helps shine light on them and people look up to the athletes. Deron Snyder wrote in The Washington Times, "It's a shame if someone with a burning passion to lend a hand keeps it behind his back instead". Everyone wants to see the world as a better place, but most of us can't really do much about it, but athletes have a chance to make a change. It would be a shame if we didn't allow them to help the world by sticking up for what many people believe in.

  11. Should professional athletes be able to express their public opinions on the court? This quote supports my opinion pretty well
"I respect ... all of our players for voicing their person views on important issues". Alana Flinn stated. The quote shows that people should be able to voice their personal opinions because their opinions are respected. If people respect their decisions its a good thing and they should be allowed to voice their opinions on the court.

  12. Athletics should speak out about racism issues, but they should watch out what they saying. " These acts are only adding fuel to the fire of an already messy problem" Athletes should watch out what they saying because some words can cause more problems and more people will want to protest. Athletes have right to speak out but they really need to watch out, because it can destroy their good opinion about them.

  13. Athletes should be able to fight for what they believe in and also address the incident that happened to the Ferguson family. LeBron James feel that are society and the people “have to better for one another and it doesn’t matter what race you are”. This quote represent that we the people should work things out amongst each other instead of fighting and killing. The races should come together to become one instead of fighting and make peace.

  14. Athletes should have all the right to publicly expressing their feelings on TV ,social networks etc. It is unfair that actors and singers can do what ever they like. Like "Its perfectly fine for players to take stands on certain issues and illnesses, as long it's not the issues and illness of racism?" Athletes always have a right to say whats on their mind but its limited. They are under a league that if they over do it they will get a fine. Also isn't unfair that athletes can speak up about terrorist attacks and so on but they can't speak about that racism is still out there and it still is dangerous.

  15. Athletes should be able to address racism. Deron Snyder said "It's perfectly fine for players to take a stands on certain issues and illnesses, as long it's not the issues and illness of racism." He's trying to say if it was anything other than race it would be fine but because its race its not fine. Why shouldn't they be able to talk about race but other issues are fine as if the other issues can't be as bad.

  16. Athletes should be able to make a statement about political issues. "They go out there and play", but that doesn't preclude them from whats happening in society". Athletes have a right to speak on political issues and criticize government because of the first amendment. They should be able to speak of racism if they can speak of other issues.

  17. Athletes should express their opinion on racism .Magic Johnson said "They're incredible stars that people will listen too." People look up to athletes all the time so if your supporting something they will too. People have the right to express their opinion and it should be heard because it can effect a athletes life.

  18. Athletes should be able to protest their opinion on certain racist issues happening in today's society.Derrick Rose recently a "I Cant Breath" shirt this past week in a game against the Brooklyn Nets.People thought it was wrong that he wore that shirt, some even frowned upon.He then quoted,"Usually athletes tend to stay away from this, but I felt I had to do something".Him as an athlete,he says it was the right thing to do when putting on that shirt. Derrick Rose is a very good role model to many people that with doing this, people will listen to his message.

  19. Professional athletes should exercise their right to voice their opinions on a national stage. John Carlos spoke on the St. Louis Rams players' support for Michael Brown, stating that " Their job was to go out and play football, but that doesn't preclude them from what's happening in society". Although they were in a professional setting, it was a good opportunity to raise awareness about what is happening in our country. Athletes and celebrities promote awareness for cancer and other issues that they feel need attention, they should be free to shine light on social issues and voice their opinions on them.

  20. Athletes should have the right to voice their opinion, but not at the place they work. NBA commissioner Adam Silver said, "I respect... all of our players for voicing their personal views on important issues but my preference would be for players to abide by our on-court attire rules." Athletes have the right to voice their opinion but on their own time, and not at a social setting like the arena. There's a time and place for everything, and the sports arena is not one of them.

  21. Professional athletes should have the right to express their own opinion but on their own social media not during work. NBA commissioner Adam Silver stated that, "I respect all of our players for voicing their personal views on important issues but my preference would be for players to abide by our on-court attire rules." By verbally telling people their personal views and wearing a "I can't breath" shirt, that's excellent but when it starts involving your career, that's when conflicts grow. This is why we must be careful, especially as being such a great role model for children and adults, to respect their opinion as well because unfortunately not everyone thinks that same one another.

  23. Athletes should be able to express themselves about the racists tragedies because they are human beings with rights like we have and anybody should be able to say whats on their mind, even if its in front of millions. In the article it says, "Thankfully some athletes have been willing to address issues of racism." and there's a question that states, "its perfectly fine for the players to take stands on certain issues and illnesses as long as its not an issue of racism?" racism has more of an impact so it should be brought to awareness. The quote and question where brought to my attention because it is true what the author states; athletes raise awareness for sickness and health but cannot speak on racism which is just as important or more, an athlete has a personal life too, they don't just focus on they sport they play. Athletes have as much of a right to speak up, they are american citizens and if you express yourself about issues in a work environment, its just raising awareness and bringing light to this corrupt government and associations

  24. Athletes should publicly express their views on social issues such as racism. "They realize that there is a need for a voice and they had the right opportunity- like we did- to be that voice, to be heard," Carlos told the New York Daily News. Today and now in time social media is perfect for expanding a message or a movement to be heard not only internationally but nationally. Giving the people a right to see, opinion, and speak. And as they are famous people, people kids and others look up to, why not speak their mind and let people know whats going on and that they have a right or know that we the people have rights and the power to be heard and make a change.

  25. Professional athletes should publicly express their views on social issues such as racism. Deron Snyder from The Washington Times said,"sorry, but that reasoning fails the sniff test. Thankfully, some athletes are no longer willing to hold their nose and look away." This shows how Snyder, the author of this article says that athletes have a right to voice their opinion on what they want. It also shows how Snyder agrees that athletes should express their views instead of ignoring the situation.
