In order to rank the importance of students/parents/community, for me, it would be parents/family, student, community. My family and I are very close so in my opinion, family comes before everything, no matter what, then being a student, since you need to be eligible in order to play, then community. Community is important, too, though because if you get in a fight out of school, you could be suspended and not be eligible to play. So for me, sports is ranked last. For others, they might not have a strong family or they might not care about school or what they do outside of school, so sports are their priority.
Oh yeah! I totally did not think of how community also plays a role in your high school athletics career. Having a good reputation in your community is so important, if you are know to be the one who does not play by the rules on the field, the word is going to get spread around and potentially get to the officials and you will be disqualified. Your comment made me realize that you must have a good reputation in order to be a successful and wanted player and it all starts in the community.
The community, parents, and students should give encouragement and confidence to the sports teams. This should happen because it keeps them in a good mood or boost moral so they can win, if the sport is competitive. This is also important because it would encourage students to join and if they join, they can possibly keep out of trouble if they were just out in the streets and not in school or on a team.
I do agree that the community and parents should give support and encouragement but not everybody in the community cares about students or the sports that they are in. Sports don't always keep a student or kid out of trouble, they can still be doing crimes before or after practice.
High school sports are a good for a person but when they start to interfere with your school grades then that is a issue. Having practice every day is okay but when they start extending practice to where when you get home and you dont have time for homework that is a issue. Many parents and community people try to get a person to play a certain sport because they played it but maybe you dont like that sport, so yes i think parents, community do play a big importance in high school sports but that can be bad sometimes. I believe that if a student wants to play football or any other sport and asks a parent or someone from his community to help him improve then its okay to play a roll in his athletic life. Sports also help kids by keeping them busy after school where they are not doing something that can effect there life in the worst.
I agree with Bart because sports are a good way to keep out of doing stupid things and they also help you succeed in classes because if the coach has a grade limit that you need to be close to then you will try harder to achieve that goal or grade.
I completely agree with the extended practice time and not being able to focus much on school work. Especially when it comes to games, there is hardly any time to do homework because once you get home, it's late, you're exhausted, and all you are thinking about is going to bed.
Practicing is a big thing in playing a sport so you can get better in. If they extend practice to the point where you cant get your homework done thats a problem. I agree with trying new sports because the sport your in now you might not like it and you might be good at something else. Practicing will help you succeed in the sport in a long run.
The city should give the sports teams confidence and encouragement. The parents should come to games and root for their son/daughter. I believe encourage ment is a huge thing in sports. Without it sports will be boring and everyone would be lazy. For some people high school sports mean everything, and to some people they can care less. Still everyone should at least be positive about it instead of giving the players discourage and putting them down. Parents also should try to get their children to try different sports to see if they like them or not. It can be a positive or negative effect but you never know if you dont try.
I agree completely that the community should be involved in high school sporting events. Even if they're not pros, there is still much excitement to be found in High School sports. Players should definitely be encouraged. High School sports are good, some even aspire to play beyond the high school level and that needs support from the player's family and dedication to school. Without school, you can't go pro.
I think that to every student athlete, their sport is a high priority; to some it may even be more important than school work and/or family. To me if you prioritize anything over your family then you need to rethink what is important in life. Family supports, encourages, and loves one another. When you are having a bad time your family is there for you. Sometimes it may seem to an athlete that the only important thing in life is their sport, but a high school sport won’t lead to much success further on in life. It may lead to the athlete being a better person but a person needs a good education in order to have a successful life. Education is a higher priority to me because I realize that I need to work hard in school if I ever want to be successful.
I agree with most of the points because they are all good points except when you said "a high school sport won't lead to much success further on in life." I think most athletes really start off their career in high school so it can lead to great success later in life. But, other than that I agree with you 100%.
I think students should prioritize family and school above high school sports. To even participate in a sport in Reavis a student must be passing all classes in order to be eligible to play. So it would make sense to prioritize school over sports. Family should also be over high school sports because I believe family is way more important than sports. In high school, families are still usually supporting their child by providing food and a house to stay in. I still think high school sports are a very big part of a students life at the time, but I think school and family should still be prioritized over high school sports.
The importance that should be recognized by students and parents in high school sports is to show encouragement and confidence in them. If you show respect and intellect to your players, they will do the same. We have to set our players minds on the correct track and to have them focus on the primary goal. It is up to us and our community to show the correct attributes of a true player through communication.
Why should the importance should be recognized only by the athletes and parents. Why not the community? The community has a big part of supporting and have confidence also encouragement for the athletes, plus the athletes parents as well. The community should also be recognized just along with the parents and students.
I agree that parents, coaches and others need to encourage players but if you try to push them to much to a point where they try to ignore you. I also agree to the part of the community to show the correct attributes because if a player see's a entire community supporting him or his team it motivates him and his teammates to continue to improve and play well.
I believe that sports should rank either forth or fifth in your life. Every person is different but I don't believe sports should be the most important thing in your life unless you make your career off it. Some basic things that I would put before sports include family, friends, grades, and/or faith. The community and parents should really support high school sports because it brings the community closer bonding over a common interest and makes the players play harder knowing there is fans that believe in you and that cheer you on to win.
I agree with this but I don't think it should be ranked that low. It should be at least third behind Family and grades. The reason why it should be before friends because your friends will not be your friends forever because in the future you will have job and a family and you will not have time for your friends. so I think sports should be ranked third because you need commitment, hard work and hard work to play a sport you really love.
I agree and disagree with this one. I do not believe sports should come 4th or 5th if you are really good. I believe it should come at least second. If you make a career of it but if you do not. I do believe that sports should be the last thing on your mind and you need to focus on more important things
The importance of sports, I believe, is below school and family. The main reason is because to stay in the sport you need to have the grades to stay in the sport and family are the ones who are all ways there for you when you need it. Friends on the team can be to but family is always first then school then sports.
I agree with Aaron because sports will never get you through life, no one will be there for you if all you are doing is playing sports. your family will always be there for you and you will always have someone by your side. school will get you through life nice and fast and then you will be able to get a really good job. sports are my last priority family first then school then sports that's what i think.
I believe that sports is a very important in your life. It keeps you out of trouble, and you have a lot of fun playing. In my opinion i believe that sports should rank fourth in your life. Everyone has their own opinion on where sports should rank. In my eyes it should go, God, Family, School, than Sports. Parents and the community should rank sports about the same. They should be at the games cheering on their son/daughter, it makes the athlete feel good knowing that their mom and dad took time out of their day to come watch them play. If the community comes and watches the games it will bring everyone together and stop some of the violence going on, they are all coming out to watch the same sport and have a good time. High school sports are a very big thing in an athletes life, but there are more important things than sports.
I completely agree with you on the order, people can't make sports their number one priority because then it will just take over their life and they wont find much importance in anything besides the sport their playing. People have to understand God, and Family always come before anything. Sports are important but they only last for so long, God is with you forever and so is your family.
I think that high school sports are a big part in a students life. It will keep them out of trouble because instead of going home after school they will be occupied with practice and games, and not making bad decisions. It will also help them keep up with their school grades because they will have to pass all their classes if they want to stay on the team. Parents and the community should support the students because encouragement is a big part for athletes, it supports them and motivates them to keep going.
When in comes to sports, in my case it is volleyball, it comes after family and grades. High school sports should be a main emphasis on a community because it keeps students socializing and it helps student stay on track academically. In order to be eligible to play a sport, passing all classes is what needs to be done. Encouragement from parents should be an importance in high school sports. Without the encouragement, what else would motivate a student to compete in their sport? Knowing parents and the community are there for you, it boosts my self-esteem and makes me a better player.
I totally agree with you that sports should come after family and grades. The community is also important since like you said, it keeps students socializing and it also brings the community together. Grades are defiantly above sports since you need good grades to participate in any high school sports. To me, family is also ranked higher than sports since they keep you motivated and they're always there for you.
Well i believe that the students should come out to the football games to support us by cheering us on against the visitor. Parents should support there kids that are on the football team and should always be there for there kids. The community should always try to come out the the games and should support there high school they used to go to. Plus why wouldn't the students ,family and community come to support are team and represent the school they started in and ended in. That's why i believe that the students, family and community should support are team and make all of the athletics players play better.
I believe this is true but this could also be a problem. If more and more people started showing up to games it could cause more problems. The players will be under a lot more pressure and stress. Also sometimes the parents can get carried away with the game and start fights with other parents. This also starts to stress the coach out also. But then again it could just give the players more encouragement. It can go either way
The importance of High School sports is pretty important. It brings everyone together and cheer for the same thing which gives motivation to the athlete that competes in the sport. I still think that family and school is more important then sports because playing sports could effect those 2 important things in your life. So High School sports is pretty important but there is bigger and better things that is more important in your life.
I understand how sports could effect your grades and how much effort you put into your grades based on if you want to be eligible, but the question I have for you, is how would sports effect your relationship with your family, would it be good or bad?
As a student, daughter, sister, and devoted athlete, in my own opinion high school sports are a very important part of my life. I have had situations where I have had to choose between a sporting event or a family or school function. Generally I rank sports number one because they are my passion. My family knows how much sports mean to me so when there is a conflict they understand. Academically I have never had a problem, I have always gotten decent grades. So I have been able to put sports before other things. But I also know that in certain situations family and schoolwork need to be a priority.
I agree that sports can come before family, were you can just forget about your problems and just go enjoy yourself and do something you love. Sometimes family may be a bigger priority because you can tell family anything and you know they wont be the ones to stab you in the back. Also there is not a big chance to play professionally in sports so school should be above sports because you have a bigger chance to be successful in life with a better education.
I believe that sports play an important role in a high school athletes life. Family, friends, and school should be an even bigger factor. Some students do not realize how important those things are. Some only think about sports and winning. In life, if you do not pursue those sports professionally or as a career, the only thing they really do is help you keep in shape during high school. Although sports should not be your first priority, it does help bring a community together. Everyone always comes together to supporrt our cities highschool and professional teams. It's always nice to see a community help motivate and cheer on our favorite sports teams.
I agree completely that grades, family, and friends take priority over sports. If a star athlete puts sports over grades he wont have anything to fall back on if his dreams to be pro (which are pretty slim) don't work out due to a career ending injury. Grades are the most important thing in our life right now because they decide on what the rest of our life will be like.
I completely agree, Alexis. Student athletes end up taking friends, family, and school for granted. In my experience, I once almost chose sports over my friends birthday, but I chose not to. My other friend had chose sports over my friends birthday, and I realized how much it really hurt her. I'm glad I chose my friend over sports, because she'll always be there, sports won't.
Participating in a high school sport is important because it keeps teenagers occupied and helps them focus on keeping up their grades. Yet I believe that grades should be ranked higher than high school sports since in Reavis, you really wouldn't be able to enjoy or even participate in a sport without passing most of your classes. I also think that family should be ranked above all others. I wouldn't be the same student athlete I am today without my families support, motivation and encouragement. The communities support and willingness to come out and support teams during games is also important, but in my opinion, it is defiantly ranked below family, grades, and high school sports.
I agree with the fact that family should be ranked first in your life. My family has helped support me throughout every decision that I have made no matter what it may've been. I also agree that keeping up with your grades is very important because without good grades, you wouldn't even be able to be in sports.
I kind of agree with you but would your opinion change if grades did not matter. I know that as an athlete if I didnt have to do homework I would have an easier life. When I get home from sports im practically exhausted, and i still have to do homework.
I slightly agree with you also. I believe that grades should go before sports but there's only so much that one person can handle. Being in school all day and then going to practice leaves me exhausted by the time I get home. Instead of being able to rest for the next day, I have to stay up late in order to finish all of my school work. As important as school and sports are, I think health tops them both.
In my time at Reavis High School, I have been a part of 4 different sports (football, soccer, basketball, volleyball). On these teams, the coaches have constantly preached about how important it is for us athletes to keep our grades up. They say "You are a student first, and an athlete second." I definitely agree that school is more important than sports. I think that students should work hard for the few hours they are in school, and they should be rewarded by having the opportunity to play their favorite sports afterwards. Education is more important than sports. It is important to learn as much as possible to be successful in the future. There is a very slim chance of anyone becoming a professional athlete, so it is important to make school a priority.
I agree with Krystian because I also believe that not many people even have a chance of becoming a professional athlete so focusing on school will give you more choices to make a living. Aspiring to be a professional athlete is great but you need to keep your goals realistic.
In life there are many ways to face your fears and accomplish goals, whether it's by studying extra hard to get and A+ on the upcoming math test or playing sports. Everyone has a tough day where they feel like nothing can go right, so they try to clear their mind by either focusing on school or taking it out on sports. If you would ask me, I would say sports are the only thing that make me happy at this moment. I love the feeling of being around a great group of girls and knowing that we are all there for each other. Sports have turned me into a tougher version of myself. A version I like better. Sports help me believe in myself and remind me that I can do anything and everything in life if I just work hard at it everyday. Sports for this reason is my main priority, it makes me feel good about myself and when I feel god about myself I do well in school. I'm positive so many other high school athletes could relate to me. Sports make life better.
The importance that should students/parents/community place on high school sports is last. I believe that high school sports shouldn't be a big deal. I think it actually it takes away time from what's more important which is family, family to me comes before anything. I believe that students instead of staying after school 3 to 6 hours, they should be out and about being with family which is more important and even being with friends , being there for friends and not being able to go here and there when you have to go to practice or a game. Don't get me wrong sports is also a good thing... So we think. It keeps us from "violence and drugs and more" .. It really doesn't. But that's my opinion. And yeah the community should support the sports but there are more important things to deal with and parents well in the end don't matter as long as they see their son/daughter doing something they happy. But in the end high school sports should be place last and those are my reasons.
Sports are one of the major things that make high school so great. They are a way to make many new friends and also are fun and let many people get a way from their problems and enjoy themselves. Although sports are so great, they are not and shouldn't be the most important thing for any student. For me, family and school should always be the most important things for a student. There is a very slim chance that someone will make a living by being a professional athlete, that is why it is important to keep school above sports because it will give you a better chance to be successful in life. Your family is also more important because for anyone, family is something you can count on. They will always support you no matter what.
Every time you ask someone the importance of high school sports in their life you will get a different answer. It all depends on whether or not he/she participates in any sports and on how important family and school work is to them. Who says that one must over power the others? For the last 7 years I have managed to equally divide my attention to all three. I always loved swimming because I knew that once I jumped into the pool nothing else mattered. Although it is nice to get away from reality for a while we can not run from it forever. Family is very important, they will always be there for you even if you do not want them there. Also, you should really focus on your school work because how you perform at school will determine your future. All three of these things are equally important, but it is you that needs to put in the effort to keep them equal.
Students join sports because they love it, or it helps them concentrate but also relieve stress, so because of that their parents support them in doing what they love. Without a community most students would not join high school sports and meet the people they have met and become friends and which they help them in becoming better at their sport. Basically without family, friends, and a community high school sports would not be anything special because it relies on all those things to become what it is now.
Sports are what makes high school what it is. But also friends family and a community make up high school sports. Students joining sports because of there family or friends but most times because they just love playing it.A community comes out to support most high school sports to cheer on the students playing and representing their high school friends and family make up that community that goes and cheers on the high school team. Without them most players probably would not be as motivated to play without their community cheering them on.
I think sports play a very big role in a high schoolers life. Students tend to begin slacking in class during high school. If someone wants to play a sport they have to keep their academics up to not be kicked off the team. Sports also help a student to keep away from illegal activities such as gangs and drugs. Parents should play a big role in their kids sport life too, they should be the ones pushing their kid from a young age to play a sport. Playing a sport from a younger age will help a student to stay motivated in the future. This is the importance of sports in a kids life.
Why do you think that sports will keep students away from illegal activities? If you parents didn't come to your games, how would that make you feel? If you were not in a sport, how do you think your grades will look? Will you still be passing? Or will you be failing some of your classes?
I agree with you about the kids staying out of trouble and playing a sport. parents should support their kids when they are on a team of any sort because if a kid is not getting any support from their parents, who is going to push them to their finest. I sort of disagree with the kids staying out of trouble because they might decide to make the right choices but it doesn't mean the influences will not be around. There will always be those kids who are trouble or do bad things, even on a sports team there will be those types of people, it just depends on what school they go to, how they are raised, and where they grew up.

DeleteWell i believe that the students should come out to the football games to support us by cheering us on against the visitor.
ReplyDeleteI believe this is true but this could also be a problem. If more and more people started showing up to games it could cause more problems. The players will be under a lot more pressure and stress. Also sometimes the parents can get carried away with the game and start fights with other parents. This also starts to stress the coach out also. But then again it could just give the players more encouragement. It can go either way
DeleteThe importance of High School sports is pretty important. It brings everyone together and cheer for the same thing which gives motivation to the athlete that competes in the sport. I still think that family and school is more important then sports because playing sports could effect those 2 important things in your life. So High School sports is pretty important but there is bigger and better things that is more important in your life.
ReplyDeleteI understand how sports could effect your grades and how much effort you put into your grades based on if you want to be eligible, but the question I have for you, is how would sports effect your relationship with your family, would it be good or bad?
DeleteAs a student, daughter, sister, and devoted athlete, in my own opinion high school sports are a very important part of my life.
ReplyDeleteI agree that sports can come before family, were you can just forget about your problems and just go enjoy yourself and do something you love. Sometimes family may be a bigger priority because you can tell family anything and you know they wont be the ones to stab you in the back. Also there is not a big chance to play professionally in sports so school should be above sports because you have a bigger chance to be successful in life with a better education.
DeleteI believe that sports play an important role in a high school athletes life.
ReplyDeleteI agree completely that grades, family, and friends take priority over sports. If a star athlete puts sports over grades he wont have anything to fall back on if his dreams to be pro (which are pretty slim) don't work out due to a career ending injury. Grades are the most important thing in our life right now because they decide on what the rest of our life will be like.
DeleteI completely agree, Alexis.
DeleteParticipating in a high school sport is important because it keeps teenagers occupied and helps them focus on keeping up their grades.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the fact that family should be ranked first in your life. My family has helped support me throughout every decision that I have made no matter what it may've been. I also agree that keeping up with your grades is very important because without good grades, you wouldn't even be able to be in sports.
DeleteI kind of agree with you but would your opinion change if grades did not matter. I know that as an athlete if I didnt have to do homework I would have an easier life. When I get home from sports im practically exhausted, and i still have to do homework.
DeleteI slightly agree with you also.
DeleteIn my time at Reavis High School, I have been a part of 4 different sports (football, soccer, basketball, volleyball).
ReplyDeleteI agree with Krystian because I also believe that not many people even have a chance of becoming a professional athlete so focusing on school will give you more choices to make a living. Aspiring to be a professional athlete is great but you need to keep your goals realistic.
DeleteIn life there are many ways to face your fears and accomplish goals, whether it's by studying extra hard to get and A+ on the upcoming math test or playing sports.
ReplyDeleteThe importance that should students/parents/community place on high school sports is last.
ReplyDeleteSports are one of the major things that make high school so great.
ReplyDeleteEvery time you ask someone the importance of high school sports in their life you will get a different answer.
ReplyDeleteStudents join sports because they love it, or it helps them concentrate but also relieve stress, so because of that their parents support them in doing what they love. Without a community most students would not join high school sports and meet the people they have met and become friends and which they help them in becoming better at their sport. Basically without family, friends, and a community high school sports would not be anything special because it relies on all those things to become what it is now.
ReplyDeleteSports are what makes high school what it is.

ReplyDeleteI think sports play a very big role in a high schoolers life.
ReplyDeleteWhy do you think that sports will keep students away from illegal activities? If you parents didn't come to your games, how would that make you feel? If you were not in a sport, how do you think your grades will look? Will you still be passing? Or will you be failing some of your classes?
DeleteI agree with you about the kids staying out of trouble and playing a sport. parents should support their kids when they are on a team of any sort because if a kid is not getting any support from their parents, who is going to push them to their finest.
