My perspective on what happened at Gunderson High School is good. I think the coach doing what he did was good. It maybe didn't work out the first season, but surely the second. They went on a winning streak and players became more clutch. Some of the players may think that not practicing not being kicked off the team is rough, but that's how you get stronger, mentality and physically. The players who didn't come back to the team are cowards. The coach has to be rough on his players if they want to win games.
In my opinion the coach's decision was unreasonable. If the players did something wrong or something he didn't like he should have confronted them about it first. He threw the starting five out of the team but he never told them why. I think that if you punish someone you should at least tell them why they are being punished. Explain to them what they wrong and tell them how it should be done. If you do not know what you did wrong you will never able to fix it mainly because you don not know what to fix. In my opinion the coach should have taken a different course of action and he should have given them a second chance.
I agree with you Duda, he should have told his players what they did wrong because they will not learn from their mistakes if they do not know what they did wrong.
I agree because he Didnt even give them a reason why he kicked them off. For all we know the kids have been nothing but respectful. The coach lost his temper and threw the starting five without thinking about the consequences.
I agree, the kids can't learn unless they know what they did wrong. I don't think the coach thought it through very well. He didn't help himself or the team.
I think the coach was right because the kids even admitted that they were "disrespectful but not THAT disrespectful" which makes people feel that they knew what they were doing wrong and that they even thought it was okay to be disrespectful to the coach. I think he was justified when he suspended the 5 starters from the team, all the boys that walked out with the starters made their own choice and that wasnt the coaches fault. One boy was pressured to leave with the walk outs but he stayed with the coach and improved immensely. So I think the coach was right because the five starters were full of themselves and basketball is a team sport, not an individual, all about me, sport.
I feel that coach Allen is right for what he did. Players in any sport need to follow the rules that the coaches make up. He kicked off the players that were causing problems and there is nothing wrong with that. The only reason that the team was so small is because the players friends who were kicked off quit. Coach Allen gave an opportunity to every player that was no longer on the team to join the team again if they brought there parents to talk with him. The coach was very reasonable and in the end, its his decision anyways. Coach Allen is not wrong for what he did. He simple drew the line in the sand and the players crossed it.
In my opinion, I feel like Coach Allen did the right thing in suspending the Gunderson 13. In a player-coach relationship, there should be a level of respect held between both parties, and the Gunderson players did not respect their coach. The players deserved to be suspensed because of their actions. It was the players' stubbornness that made them miss the season when they didn't get their parents to talk to the coach. They made the decision to boycott the team and Coach Allen was in the right when he stood firm. I agree with Coach Allen's perspective, and I believe that the decisions he made affected the Gunderson team for the better.
I disagree, the coach-player relationship should be one built on communication. The coach failed to communicate with his players and then blamed the players.
In my opinion what the coach did at Gunderson High School was the right thing to do. The Gunderson 13 did not follow the rules that the coach had. To have a successful team you need all the players on the same page following the same rules. I'm sure the coach knew that if he kept the kids they would be a bad influence on the kids that are following the rules. This would also never stop because if they younger see the older kids not following the rules they will be the same way. I believe the decision made by the coach will make the Gunderson team better for the years to come.
I agree. the players crossed the line that the coach drew and he had to stand his ground or else they would keep doing it. Coach Allen even gave the players a chance to bring in their parents to try and get back on the team.
I agree the kids at Gunderson were very disrespectful to the coach so he had the right to suspend them. If they were so concerned with getting on the team they should have showed up with there parents the day he told them to.
I feel like coach allen did the right thing, because the Gunderson 13 did not follow the rules. If coach kept them on the team then all the players would lose their respect towards coach because they would see that the coach will just let them slide even if they do something wrong that is against the rules. Also, it would not be fair to the other players who were following the rules. Players have to have respect for their coaches and follow the coaches rules if they want to be on the team. I think coach Allen's decision was not wrong at all.
My perspective on what happened at Gunderson High School is good. I think this because in the long run he succeeded, the players at first might not of have noticed it but what the coach was trying to do is make them better and more respectful to him and the game. The players that were kicked off the team I think learned a life lesson and also learned to be the best you can and never to give up. If I was the coach I think I would of have done the same thing because it would make the players wake up and focus on whats important in life. I think the players who did not come back still have a lot to learn and the players who did are good players that care and love the game and would do anything for it. In conclusion I think the coach did the right thing and as you can see in the end he succeeded even if it took him a while.
My opinion about what the coach did at Gunderson High School was the right thing. Basketball is a game about respect, being committed and being a great player. Coach knew what he had to do and he did the right thing. Those 5 players that were disrespectful and acting all hard didn't deserve to play for that team and for that school. A guy walking out on the team that could be a starter could have had that chance step it up and prove to coach that he deserves to play on that team. For the guys who stayed on the team and didn't leave, much respect to them for sticking around, that shows they are committed and respectful to coach and their program. First season did not go well but once that 2nd season came, they been tearing it up and it all took time and patience so yes the coach did the right thing
My opinion on what the Gunderson coach did was that his act was crossing the line. The only reason he did such an act was because they had a bad losing streak and he was tired of the showboating. You don't suspend the team because of a few bad games. You discipline them; you condition them to no end, not kick them off the team. I feel like the coach wanted to take his actions back but he was too deep in it to take it back. The kids didn't do anything crazy like the kids in Coach Carter, so they didn't really deserve to be suspended from the team.
My opinion was that he did the right thing to the kids. He made them look good at the second season . At first they were having trouble but at the end it was good , I known the players where not liking the coach but at the end they did because he made them win game over game and , have good player's that where bad before . That's my perspective on the school
In my opinion, the coach shouldn't have kicked them off. I would make them run, and then would run all practice long until the showboating stopped. And after running a couple of practices, they would realize the coach isn't playing around with what he said. He should of done it, like Coach Carter did. For everything bad they did, he would discipline them in some way. That's the only way to get through to players some times. Players don't want to run all practice, they want to do fun drills of some sort. But its on the players as well to show some respect to the coaches decision. They were the ones screwing around.
In my opinion, Coach Allen didn't do anything wrong. He did the right thing by suspending the thirteen players. Like the movie Coach Carter, the coach wants the players to respect him, themselves, and the game. And when those players broke those rules they will be punished or just kicked off. And that's what Coach Allen did, and he didn't even care if he had a small team. You can't have a good team if all of the players are stubborn and disrespectful. If those players could play basketball without breaking any of the rules, then how hard could it be to follow the coach's rules? So I agree with Coach Allen because his decision for suspending those players was the right thing to do, and it gave the players a different perspective on the game and how it's necessary to follow the rules.
I agree with you on some points but not all. In the movie "Coach Carter" he tried to enplane what was wrong , if they dint like it they left. Unlike coach Allen where he suspended them and didn't tell them whats wrong
I agree, if players do not respect their own coach it only leads to bigger problems. The players would just fool around and do whatever they wanted to do on the court instead of following the game plan. It would be a waste of the players and coaches time.
I believe that the Gunderson coach was wrong. He punished the players without giving them a reason. If you want someone to learn from their mistakes you have to show them where they made their mistake. I also believe the coach went overboard with the parent coach meetings. He should not have dragged the parents in for something that could have easily been solved with basic discipline. I also believe he was in the wrong when the parent came to talk to the coach. The parent asked the Gunderson coach what his son did wrong and he response was unprofessional, "If you don't know why, I'm not going to tell you". I also believe the players could have acted more maturely, but the players are teenagers, not adults.
I think that what happened at Gunderson was kind of unnecessary. The coach made them go through a lot just to get respect for himself. Some of the kids on this team were seniors, many of them wanted to play basketball their last year. If I was in their situation and got kicked off the team, and didn’t get a legitimate reason why, I would be pretty mad. Also I’m on the players’ side because I know many coaches that ask for respect when they clearly don’t show you any back just because you’re young. Maybe they did win more games, and yes their team did need a little bit of fixing, but I don’t think that was the only way to go.
In my opinion I think what coach Allen did was wrong. He suspending the kids from playing basketball was not the right way to teach a bunch of high school kids a life lesson. The coach didn't relies that he destroyed 13 players’ dreams. The main problem with the coach was that he didn't understand his players, he didn't comprehend that they had different point of views. The coach suspending them didn't teach the players anything. The least the coach could have done is tell his ex-players why they were suspended, they probably wanted to fix their mistakes but that’s impossible because they don’t know what they did wrong in the fist place.
I think what the coach did was the right thing to do. The coach told his players to bring their parents next practice and the boys didn't do it. The coach had to give his players some type of discipline so the players would respect him. I also think that the coach went to far by kicking them off the team completly. He could have made made his point by just suspending the players for a few games.
In my perspective, the coach couldn't have been more wrong. Coaches, especially high school coaches, have a job to teach his players the game and, even more importantly, lessons that help each player grow as a person. The players should have been punished if they were being disrespectful, but not as severely as they were. Plus, they should have been told why they were being punished. How could any of the boys learn a lesson if they don't even know what they did wrong? In retrospect, all the coach did was throw away a season and make 13 kids hate him. In my opinion, the only logical reason for the severity of the punishment is to make an example of the players that will last for years to come. However, none of his teams will ever understand why he did it. He was most definitely wrong, but too stubborn to admit it.
I think that what the coach did to those players on that high school basketball game was extremely wrong. A coach for high school is there to teach discipline and to enforce it. He went overboard when he kicked off the players for being disrespectful and to make it worse he didn't tell them why and he probably never will. A coach is suppose to teach players how to be better individually and as a team, how are those players suppose to learn anything if the the coach didn't even help them by saying why they got kicked off or how they messed up. Players should be punished and disciplined for their wrong doings but I don't think they should be kicked off the team for something like that.
I feel that what Coach Allen did was the right thing to do. Teams that do not respect their coaches will not be very successful. Some of the kids said that they did not know what they had done to get suspended but another said that he did not feel that he was "that" disrespectful. If a player knows he's being disrespectful and continues to do it I feel that they should be punished. Of course it's a waste of a season but this can really change the team around and it helped them learn a lesson. This is why I feel like what Coach Allen did was right.
I will have to side with coach for this type of situation. His players were cocky, and disrespectful. They were picking on the freshmen and sophomore teams. He also only suspended five players, the other eight walked out.If it was Coach Carter they would have to run suicides and do push ups. They were lucky that Coach Allen gave them an opportunity to come back with a parent and discuss what they did wrong. They did not have to sign any contracts, which that they had to sign. The coach could have suspended everyone but did not because he is a nice guy and that is why I sided with him.
I agree, compared to Coach Carter, Coach Allen did not seem as strict. He did not require his players to sign a contract and keep their GPA within a certain range. If a team is disrespecting their coach then I also believe that they should get suspended. If this is going on then it will only lead to bigger problems and nothing positive will come out of it.

I agree with the coach because he had rules and it was up to the players if they wanted to follow them and be allowed on the team. He was a man of his word and he wasn't going to let losing games change his mind about letting his players back on the team. He Knew that if he let them back on the team that they wouldn't really respect him like he wanted them to. But if you don't respect or listen to the coach then why should he let you play. The kids who have been there are the ones who deserve to play even if they aren't that good they should get a chance to be in the game. I think he made a good decision and sticking to it.
My perspective on what happened at Gunderson High School is good. I think the coach doing what he did was good. It maybe didn't work out the first season, but surely the second. ReplyDeleteThe coach should be rough on his team, but to an extent. All players tend to get out of hand sometimes, they just need to be taught otherwise.
DeleteI agree with Slomba, he did take it too far and what's worse is that he didn't help them by telling them what they did wrong.
DeleteBeing kicked off the team for having a few bad games is uncalled for. The coach should punish them, but not to such a degree. He pushed it too far.
